StemDisc™

StemDisc™ represents a major advancement in stem cell technology. StemDisc™ is designed to improve embryoid body (EB) formation of stem cells at a higher rate and efficiency over current EB formation methods. EB formation is a prerequisite in the study of many stem cell characteristics. Because Shrink microfabricates wells with rounded or honeycomb-like characteristics, optimum EB formation can occur at a greater efficiency and with more reliable regularity. Other methods to achieve this are more expensive and/or less efficient for industry acceptable EB formation. With StemDisc™, EB variation is minimized and reproducibility is increased. StemDisc™ also allows for a multitude of applications across many currently existing microwell plate formats, thereby increasing the flexibility of use for researchers. This flexibility of use and ease of configuration creates new opportunities for Shrink to develop further the StemDisc™ as a stem cell research and development platform in conjunction with partners and customers. StemDisc™ utilizes NanoShrink™ in its fabrication.

  • The StemDisc™ platform will work with designs as small as 20 nanometer wells to 400 nanometer wells, depending on the application.
  • StemDisc™ can be used with any standard culture well plate. Because StemDisc™ can be customized to fit any configuration, StemDisc™ can be utilized across a broad range of culture substrates, including market leading legacy products.
  • StemDisc™ has garnered significant attention from the research community during preliminary data presentations. Shrink is currently working with several multi-national bioscience companies and public research labs to develop and characterize the StemDisc™ technology further.
  • Shrink is exploring opportunities with established stem cell R&D companies for potential strategic partnerships in the sale and marketing of StemDisc™ to the R&D industry.
  • Shrink is able to develop StemDisc™ up to mass production scale due to its fabrication ease. This will enable Shrink to fully characterize StemDisc™ across varying applications in R&D prior to partnering.

Shrink has identified numerous potential partner companies and competitors for StemDisc™. One type of partner identified is the stem cell R&D tool company that does not currently have an EB substrate product. By leveraging StemDisc™ as the next generation stem cell R&D tool, Shrink will be in an excellent position in terms of joint venture arrangements.
