About

In late 2007, my business partner – James B. Panther II – and I recognized the lack of funding for new and innovative businesses. Wall Street and venture capital firms were reducing their exposure to early stage technology companies. We saw this as an opportunity to reach out to the leaders of these pioneering companies, as well as to the world-class institutions in which they were conducting their research. |
Shortly thereafter, we created our first fund with a goal of bridging the financing gap needed to bring these revolutionary ideas from the research lab to commercialization. It was during that search that we came to learn more about the research that Dr. Michelle Khine had been conducting at the University of California at Merced. She told us about a new way she had devised to fabricate tiny features onto plastic chips – she had discovered this by using material from one of her favorite childhood toys, Shrinky Dinks. In her research, she was able to create a fully customized and functional microfluidic device that was made without the need for a clean room and millions of dollars in sensitive and expensive equipment.
The innovations developed by Dr. Khine have become the core of what is now Shrink Nanotechnologies. The Company has 11 exclusive patent pending technologies and is developing products and licensing partnerships in three main vertical markets including Solar Energy, Medical and Diagnostic Sensors and Research Tools to fuel innovation in some of the most important medical fields.
In today’s environment, we believe for-profit enterprises and non-for-profit research labs can work together to accelerate the development of new technologies to the benefit of multiple industries. To bring these game-changing products to market, Shrink has assembled an expert network of thought leaders with the mission of determining commercialization pathways for our technology. In fact, we believe Shrink is a first of its kind FIGA organization. FIGA companies are “for profit” businesses that bring together diverse contributions from leaders in the worlds of finance, industry, government and academia.
